Here at Endless Speech and Languge Service, we know every child has a different style of learning, works at a different pace, and responds in a different way. Speech Sound Disorder

What is it?

Articulation is the correct production of speech sounds, using the mouth, lips, and tongue.  It is a concern when the errors are inappropriate for his or her cultural and social background or overall developmental level.

Red Flags:

  • Child exhibit errors in the production of K, G, S, L, SH, CH sounds
  • Difficult to understand when speaking
  • Slurring or mumbling of speech
  • A child may add, leave off, or change some sounds

Language Disorder

What is it?

Language is the ability to understand and use oral messages to clearly communicate ideas, wants, and needs. It is a concern when the errors are inappropriate for his or her cultural and social background or overall developmental level.

Red Flags:

  • Cannot express ideas logically and clearly
  • Does not smile or interact with others (birth and older)
  • Difficulty coming up with the names of items
  • Has trouble playing and talking with others (2-3 yrs)
  • Trouble making friends, entering a play circle or expressing feelings
  • Difficulty completing tasks independently

Stuttering

What is it?

Stuttering also is known as “fluency” is the rate and pattern of speech including the coordination of breathing, voice, rate, and articulation. It is the rhythm of our speech. It is a concern when the following red flags are consistent, persistent over a period of time, and/or accompanied by frustration and movements.

Red Flags:

  • Repeats first sounds of words—“b-b-b-ball” for ball
  • Speech breaks while trying to say a word—“—boy” for “boy”
  • Stretches sounds out—fffff-farm for “farm”
  • Shows frustration when trying to get words out.

Teletherapy is available for residents outside of the service area.
